About Bess Chappas


Bess has 21 years experience as a teacher and school librarian.  She  has been telling stories professionally to both children and adult groups since her retirement. She also holds workshops, “How to be a Better Storyteller”, “How to Start a Storytelling Troupe”, and “How to Write Your Own Story”. She writes a column for the monthly magazine “Coastal Senior” and has written feature articles for Savannah Morning News and other publications.

She has won Honorable Mention for an article in the Writer’s Digest contest and has authored the  CD, “Savannah Ghost Stories” and the children’s book, “Kiki and the Red Shoes.” Bess was born in Greece and came to US with her family when she was seven.  She has done extensive travel, including Great Britain, Greece, Argentina, Ireland, France, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Russia, Egypt, China, and Hawaii,  in addition to many places within the continental US.  She laughingly tells her audience that she can play the guitar in two languages.

Her education consists of a BS  in  Education from Armstrong Atlantic State University, MA from Georgia Southern University, and Specialist in Ed. Media from University of Georgia.

Professional Associations include:  Southern Order of Storytellers, National Storytelling Association, Society of Childrens Book Writers and Illustrators,  and Toastmasters International.
